Welcome to the 2025 WakeMed health care careers conference for high school students Navigating Health Care Careers: Chart Your Path from High School to Health Care!  

In order to participate in this event on Friday, March 14, 2025, you must be invited by an event coordinator, and you must have a full schedule of 8 sessions. To be invited to this event, please have a parent sign the WakeMed consent form and email the form to WorkforceDevelopment@wakemed.org.

Friday, March 14th is a WCPSS traditional calendar teacher workday. If your school does not follow this calendar, you may elect to seek an excused absence from your school’s administration to attend this educational event.

Welcome to Navigating Health Care Careers: Chart Your Path from High School to Health Care! We are so glad you are here!  Please refer to our digital resource guide for more information on the departments represented at our event.


Consent Form
If you are under 18 years old, please have your parent sign the WakeMed consent form and email it back to WorkforceDevelopment@wakemed.org. If you are 18 or older, please sign the form and email it back, as well.



Drop Off
If someone is dropping you off on August 8th, please find the P4 area located at the top left corner of this map (yellow background). Have your driver pull into the P4 area, and you will see the entrance to the Andrews Center. Please enter through the Andrews Center entrance. We kindly ask for your understanding as our event space has limited capacity, making it challenging to accommodate waiting parents. Unfortunately, we will not have room to accommodate parents who are standing by. Thank you for your cooperation.


Parking - Plan to arrive in P1 by 7:00 am!
  1. From New Bern Avenue, turn onto WakeMed's campus via the Main Visitor's entrance.  
  2. Turn right into the P1 Parking Deck. 
  3. Park and take the elevators/stairs to the 3rd floor of the deck.
  4. Walk across the pedestrian bridgeway.
  5. Enter through the hospital's main entrance, and stop at the main information desk. 
  6. You will be greeted and provided directions to Navigating Health Care Careers in the Andrews Center.

We have an exciting day planned just for you! Ever wondered what it’s like to work in healthcare? Well, this is your chance to find out! We have 14 different departments ready to show you the ropes. But here’s the cool part - you get to be the boss of your day! You decide which departments you want to explore. Maybe you’re curious about advanced practice providers, or perhaps you want to know more about physical therapy. The choice is yours!

Here’s how it works: You’ll pick four departments to visit in the morning (8:30 am - 10:05 am) and another four for the afternoon (11:50 am - 1:25 pm). So, start thinking about what interests you and get ready to dive into the world of healthcare! Select those departments to add them to your schedule. Let’s go! 🚀

FIRST - After creating an account, add information to your profile and add a professional profile picture.
SECOND - Read the session descriptions to see what interests you.
THIRD - Add eight sessions to your schedule. (You must create an account in order to add sessions to your schedule.)

8:30 am – 1:25 pm 

  • 8:30 am – 10:05 am: Four 20-minute student morning rotations (add to your schedule)
  • 10:05 am – 11:40 am: Q&A with Donald Gintzig, WakeMed President & CEO; Health Care Careers Panel, and Lunch (provided) 
  • 11:50 am – 1:25 pm: Four 20-minute student afternoon rotations (add to your schedule)

1:30 - 2:00 pm: Closing session & evaluation 


In order to attend this event, you must create an account and create a schedule. Please follow the directions below. 

 
Register for the event by creating your account 
  1. Navigate to https://wakemedhs24.sched.com/ 
  1. Click the green Sign Up button. Choose to sign up with your Google or Facebook credentials. You can also click Sign up with email. 
  1. Complete the short demographics form and click Register. 
  1. On the next screen, click Back to event. 

Create your schedule 
We will have 15 departments represented, and you will have an opportunity to build a schedule to learn more about 8 of those departments. (Don’t worry – you can always visit with more departments during lunch or after the event!) The directions below are for a desktop experience (not mobile). 
  1. Once you are logged into the event space, hover over the session title to see the session description.  
  1. Click on the radio button to add a session to your schedule.  
  1. You can change your mind as many times as you would like! 


Create a Public Profile 
Part of a great conference is being able to network with others! So that you can connect with other high school students who have interests similar to yours, please create a public profile. The directions below are for a desktop experience (not mobile). 
  1. In the top right corner, click on the silhouette of a person. 
  1. Click Settings. 
  1. Toggle on the Make my profile & schedule public. 
  1. For Company, please type the full name of your high school (no acronyms, please). 
  1. Scroll down and click Save Settings. 
The rest of your profile is optional, but we hope you fill in as much as you are willing to share so that we build a sense of community together!

Sched App 

  1. In the Apple Store or Google Play, download Sched 
  1. Open Sched and search for WakeMed > Tap Navigating Health Care Careers: Chart Your Path form High School to Health Care 
  1. You’ll utilize this app on the day of the event to manage your schedule and stay connected to announcements and fellow attendees. 

WakeMed All Access App 

WakeMed has a great app that will help you navigate from parking to the Andrews Center. Search your app store for WakeMed All Access App. 



Attendee Count 
Understanding the attendee numbers is crucial for us. We acknowledge that circumstances can alter plans. If you have registered but find yourself unable to attend as the event approaches, please reach out to us at WorkforceDevelopment@wakemed.org. While we will be sad you won't be joining us, we will gladly assist in deactivating your account. (You can also do this on your own. In your profile settings, scroll to the bottom and click Remove yourself from this event.)
